Around the sixth century AD, an Arab shepherd named Kaldi was secretly observing his goats while grazing. He noticed that after the goats ate the red berries from a wild bush on the hillside, they became unusually excited. Curious, Kaldi picked the berries himself and found that they filled him with energy and made him feel very happy. He then took the berries to a nearby monastery and told the monks about their miraculous effects.
However, the monks believed it was the devil’s work and threw the red berries into the fire. The berries immediately emitted a tantalizing aroma. While the head monk was asleep, a young rebellious monk gathered the cooled beans, ground them into powder, and poured it into a container filled with hot water. Thus, the world’s first cup of coffee was born.
